The red dahlia symbolizes strength and power. I don't know about the power, but I've gained strength on this journey. Picture this. You're at the Farmer's Market; you've already purchased a bouquet of flowers when you turn around and see this gorgeous red dahlia!

Well, if you're Sally, you bring it home with you :) I didn't have to stand there long before it was in my hands. Hands full of flowers! This girl's dream. ❤️ Once I got home, I would love to tell you I did nothing but photograph her, but I had things that needed my attention. When I finished my chores, I turned my attention to her. She was gracefully waiting in the vase on the table, standing tall and elegant. The afternoon sun was already fading, but I took her outside because that's where I love to photograph. I placed her in various spots until I found what I was looking for, then I focused my lens on her. Now, it's a good thing my neighbors were not outside because they would have heard a squeal emerge from my general direction. 😮 I photographed her until the light was fading, but I could not get my focus right. There was a very slight breeze, as there generally was in my backyard, but I was not about to give up. I knew she would not be the same tomorrow and wanted to get this image. The problem with shooting so shallow is that the focus must be spot on. In the end, this was as close as I could come. I love this image and have named this beauty Red Velvet because this red dahlia reminds me of a beautiful red velvet dress.
